TIP: How to find your Linux or Kernel version

There are two commands you can use from bash prompt (konsole) :

cat /etc/issue

or

Code:

cat /etc/lsb-release

“lsb” in “lsb-release” stands for Linux Standard Base.

Finally to find your kernel version and a few more details about your machine

uname -a

TIP: How to find out what your motherboard is, from Linux

I couldn't be bothered to open the case on my tower system and a little browsing found this.

Open bash command prompt by typing 'konsole'. Then type:

sudo dmidecode | less

It shows BIOS, motherboard, CPU and memory (including SRAM type) installed.
